Supported Housing

Stonewall Housing helps young lesbians, gay men, bisexual and transgender people find homes they feel safe and secure in. We provide support in six shared housing projects across four London Boroughs to 41 young LGBT people who were homeless, living in unstable, unsafe or unsuitable accommodation, or in serious threat of becoming homeless.

The accommodation we provide is exclusively supported housing for young single LGBT people. This means we cannot offer housing to people who are younger than 16 or older than 25, couples or families, or people who only require housing and have no support needs. However, we do provide advice, advocacy and help with housing applications to LGBT people of any age and family status, and with any level of support needs, or none, through our Advice Service - click here for details.

Clients come from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and have a range of support needs including emotional and mental health difficulties, drug and alcohol abuse, and difficulties with budgeting and other independent living skills. Many have had harrowing experiences before finding their way to our door, some having faced rejection by family members because of sexuality or gender identity, domestic abuse, and family breakdown.

We provide our clients with homes they can finally feel safe and secure in, but it doesn’t end there. Our Supported Housing Officers provide each of our clients with the support and encouragement they need to express themselves and feel comfortable and confident in who they are. Together, clients and Supported Housing Officers develop a tailored and holistic support plan which is regularly reviewed to ensure they gain the independent living skills they need to set up their own home and achieve their ambitions.
