Training

One of the key recommendations from the ‘Hidden In Plain Sight’ research was that housing providers should implement sexuality awareness training for all staff.

This training should form the cornerstone of a strategy to integrate sexuality into equalities work. The training should offer staff the chance to learn about relevant issues, discuss any views they have and find out the organisation's stand on these issues. It is particularly vital that any staff involved in the monitoring of client sexuality are trained in asking questions in an appropriate way.

Sexuality awareness training for housing providers should fulfil the following minimum objectives:

  • Raising awareness of the links between sexuality and housing problems
  • Allowing a forum for staff to discuss their concerns in a open and safe space
  • Guidance on why monitoring of client sexuality is important, and how to ask appropriate questions about clients’ sexuality
  • Practical guidance on how to put equal opportunities into practice, and what steps individual staff can take in service delivery

Stonewall Housing can provide in-house training for staff at housing providers. Please contact us on 020 7359 6242 or info@stonewallhousing.org for further information and rates.
